Week in Review

This week we have been finishing up our study of Australia, birds, and Edgar Degas. We had a lesson on birds from Australia. We read a book about different animals that live in Australia and finished up our "dot paintings". The Kindergartners did research on different types of birds and they presented their research to the class!

In four year old enrichment we began learning sight words and the children made their own sight word books to take home. We will be working on different sight words each week.  This week's words: a, and, the, I.

Also in enrichment, we read the book, Chrysanthemum by Kevin Henkes. We talked about how saying mean words can really hurt someone's heart. In the book, Chrysanthemum was made fun of at school because of her unusually long name. Every time the children would hear a mean phrase in the book we would pass around our large paper heart and crumple it up. At the end of the story, we opened our heart and saw how wrinkled it was! Each child put a band-aid on the heart to make it "better". We learned that just because we tried to cover the heart with band-aids, it was still wrinkled. Our motto was, "Before you speak, think and be smart! It's hard to fix a wrinkled heart."

Thursday the children had lessons on the binomial cube and the geometric solids, and in enrichment we read a book about toucans.
